Black River Academy Museum and Historical Society

Founded in 1835, the Black River Academy served as Ludlow's high school until 1938. Among its students was one whose name might be familiar: Calvin Coolidge. The future president graduated from the Academy in 1890, just two years after it moved into the Richardsonian style building that now houses the Black River Academy Museum and Historical Society.

Today the Museum and Society preserve the heritage and traditions of the Black River Valley, and visitors will get to experience exhibits of furniture, clothing, quilts and special features such as a woolen mills exhibit, and 1890 schoolroom and more. The building is also the site of an existing fiber arts school.

The Museum is open Memorial Day to Columbus weekend, Tuesday through Saturday, 12-4 or by special appointment. Admission is by donation. They can be reached at 802-228-5050.
