Housed in the original Robbins & Lawrence
Armory, the American Precision Museum holds the largest collection
of "historically significant" machine tools in the
US. According to their Website,
the Museum "... preserves the heritage of the mechanical
arts, celebrates the ingenuity of our mechanical forebears
and explores the effects of their work on our everyday lives."
The Museum features a number of collections,
including machine tools, sewing machines, typewriters, firearms,
precision hand tools and scale models. It is also home to
an extensive collection of published/archival materials related
to the history of New England manufacturing (due to space
limitations, the library and archives are available only by
appointment at present).
The American Precision Museum is open seven
days a week, 10-5, Memorial Day through October 31. You can
