South-Central Vermont Historic SitesHubbardton Battlefield State Historic Site - The Battle of Hubbardton is the only Revolutionary War battle to take place entirely on Vermont soil, and this event is memorialized at the Hubbardton Battlefield State Historic Site in East Hubbardton. This site features a visitors reception center (constructed in 1970) that houses a museum, diorama, interpretive exhibit with period artifacts and more. Hubbardton. Joseph Smith Birthplace Memorial - Visitors to the memorial can enjoy a visitors center with artwork, a diorama and a films, as well as hiking and picnicking on the grounds. There is also a granite monument on the site that was erected to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Smith's birth. Royalton. The Old Constitution House - Often called the "birthplace of Vermont," The Old Constitution House has been restored and has an exhibit on the writing and meaning of Vermont's Constitution. Windsor. President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site - This rural Vermont village, the birthplace and boyhood home of Calvin Coolidge, remains virtually unchanged since the turn of the century. The homes of Calvin Coolidges family and neighbors, the community church, cheese factory, one-room schoolhouse, and general store have been carefully preserved, and many have their original furnishings. Woodstock Historical Society - The Woodstock Historical Society is located in the 1807 Charles Dana House and hosts a number of collections, including 19th century furnishings, silver and glass, dolls, costumes and more. |
