Vermont Foliage Activities

Vermont foliage at a damOf course, there is more to Vermont during foliage season than just colored leaves. The whole state takes on this sort of harvest/cornucopia/feel-good air, and you can easily get your fill of foliage and still save room for other activities. Try stopping in at an apple orchard or farmstand where you can buy or pick your own produce, pumpkins, purchase crafts and baked goods and more. A wide variety of state parks are still open this time of year, and Dairies of Distinction can be found throughout the state. The Great Vermont Corn Maze is up and running in Danville again this year (offering daytime and starlight maze fun), and any number of museums and other highlights are available for touring. Many of the state's ski areas also run summer and fall programs with gondola lifts, alpine slides and more.

Or perhaps you'd like to try something really different? A number of bike touring companies offer foliage tour packages. Picture flying over the flaming colors in a hot air balloon, or clickity-clacking through the countryside in the vintage cars of the Green Mountain Railroad. For those looking for an extended train adventure, Great Train Escapes offers an 8 day/7 night New England Foliage Tour with several departure dates in September and October.

Fall is also one of the best times to go antiquing in the state, with numerous shows and most shops running at full steam.
