National Historic Landmark, 1400-acre
working farm and nonprofit environmental education center, the
Shelburne-based Shelburne Farms is a Vermont treasure. Shelburne
Farms was created in 1886 by William Seward and Lila Vanderbilt
Webb as a model agricultural estate. In 1972 it became an educational
nonprofit, and today it features a 125 cow dairy, 400 acres
of sustainable managed woodlands, a children's farmyard, inn,
restaurant and more. They also sponsor a wide range of education
programs for students, families and others.
Shelburne Farms is open year round from 10-4, with guided tours
available May through October. General admission to the grounds
are $6/adults, $5/seniors, $4/3-14 year olds and under 3 free
(Shelburne residents and members also get in for free). Be sure
