their Website: "Allis State Park is named after Wallace
Allis who willed his Bear Mountain Farm to the state of Vermont
to be developed as a campground and recreational area. It
is located on the summit of Bear Mountain. There is a fire
tower located at the picnic area from which there are excellent
views of central Vermont. On a clear day, Killington, Pico,
and Ascutney peaks are visible to the south; Camel's Hump
and Mt. Mansfield to the north; Abraham, Lincoln, and Ellen
to the west; the White Mountains of New Hampshire to the east."
The park consists of 18 tent sites and 8 lean-to
sites. Nearby attractions include: the Floating Bridge, Marvin
Newton House, Norwich University Museum, Vermont
State House, Barre Granite Quarries and the John Selby
Maple Museum.
