Escape Routes

Looking for a bit more flexibility in a tour? Escape Routes runs guided and self-guided tours May through October. Riders can customize their own tours, and there are no set start dates, offering maximum flexibility. Escape Routes also offers hiking, snowshoe and ski tour options. Specialized Tours

Sometimes bike tours towards specific groups, such as women or teens. Sometimes they are so focused -- one tour, one time a year -- that they really don't fit the description of a full-fledged touring company. Either way, we have grouped both here under specialized tours.

WomanTours

The title pretty much says it all. WomanTours offers a couple of different tour options (Northeast Kingdom, Champlain Valley) for women only. For 2002, these tours are both six day, one time events run in August. For more information, visit the site or call 1-800-247-1444.

Teen Touring

A number of different companies run tours strictly for teenagers. Tours for Teens (1-800-654-5957) offers a two-week tour of Vermont and New Hampshire for teens. Accommodations are mostly camping with some indoor stays. Overland (1-413-458-9672) offers two-week tours from Williamstown, MA to Montreal, Canada several times in the summer. These are for grades 8-10. Finally, the Student Hosteling Program (1-800-343-6132) offers a couple of different Vermont bike trips, including a 21-day Vermont to Maine trek.

Brooks Country Cycling Tours

Brooks Country Cycling Tours offers a three-day Memorial Day weekend tour of central Vermont, including a trip to the Calvin Coolidge Birthplace in Plymouth. Their phone number is 212-874-5151.

International Bicycle Tours, Inc.

International Bicycle Tours, Inc. offers two five-day tours of the Lake Champlain region, with visits to the UVM Morgan Horse Farm, Middlebury and Basin Harbor. See the Web site to request a brochure, or call 860-767-7005.
