Description: The name of the game is snowshoes, hundreds of them traversing hundreds of snow-filled miles March 2-3, 2012, in Pittsfield, VT, during the 7th annual Peak Snowshoe Challenge competitions. The registration fee is $225.
There are three other weekend snowshoe competitions:
Peak Snowshoe Marathon, a 26.20-mile event; Peak Snowshoe Half Marathon, a 13.10-mile event; and the 6.5- mile Peak Snowshoe Fun Run. Registrations are $100, $80 and $60 respectively. Register online at www.peakreaces.com .
Snowshoe Challenge registration packets are available from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on March 2 or at 6 a.m. at the Pittsfield Original General Store. Races begin at 8 a.m. For all snowshoe events, registrants can participate as solo, relay and team racers. The 2011 Peak Snowshoe Challenge drew 250 competitors from as far away as Colorado and Florida. Anticipates Hosting 300 Competitors on Snowshoes
Winter Death Race, Pittsfield will also host this same weekend the 40-mile, 5th annual 2012 Winter Death Race that like its famous summer counterpart, Spartan Death Race offers unpredictable challenges that can last 24 hours. Winter Death Race headquarters will be Amee Farm Barn on Rt. 100 in Pittsfield, open to 2012 Winter Death Race competitors at 6 p.m. March 2. Check in is at the Pittsfield Original General Store.
