Lunenburg, Vermont

Granted in 1763, Lunenburg was named for Prince Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand of Brunswick-Luneburg, a German hero of the Seven Years' War.

Hilly and wooded, Lunenburg has as its eastern border the Connecticut River and contains within it Neal Pond.

The village of Gilman in Lunenburg was once home to the Gilman Paper Company, which was the largest industry in the whole of Essex County for many years.

Unincorporated villages and settlements include South Lunenburg and Gilman.
