Landgrove was originally settled by a group of families who thought
they were actually living in the nearby town of Peru.
When it was determined that no town actually claimed the land they were
on, the state of Vermont granted it to them in 1780. The origins of
the name itself are unknown.
Landgrove started small, and pretty much stayed that way. It faced
disincorporation in the 1930's but was saved by the actions of Samuel
Ogden, who worked to increase the population by buying, restoring, and
selling old homes.
