Jeffersonville, Vermont
The northern gateway to (and home of) Smuggler's Notch, Jeffersonville is actually a settlement within the town of Cambridge. The name is actually a bit of a slight to Thomas Jefferson, who's Embargo Act of 1807 was pretty much ignored by the settlement's residents, who answered the Act by smuggling goods into Canada. In more recent history, Jeffersonville has been a popular destination for tourists for much of the past century. The Lamoille River provides for great fishing and canoeing, and the nearby Stowe and Smuggler's Notch resorts provide a fantastic variety of skiing terrain. And when it comes to thrilling roads, it's tough to beat Route 108 as it drops into Jeffersonville.
