Hancock, Vermont

Granted by the Vermont legislature in 1780, Hancock was named for John Hancock, the revolutionary patriot of big signature fame.

Heavily wooded and mountainous, it lies almost entirely within the Green Mountain National Forest to the east of Middlebury.
