Located just to the southeast of Brattleboro, Halifax
was granted in 1750. It was named for George Montagu-Dunk, the second
earl of Halifax.
Halifax is the birthplace of Elisha G. Otis, the inventor
of the safety elevator.
Heavily wooded, Halifax is also home to a wealth of
mountains and lesser peaks, including:
- Blue Mountain (2001 feet)
- Stowe Mountain (1460 feet)
- Jolly Mountain (2020 feet)
- Chase Hill (1880 feet)
- Prospect Hill (1812 feet)
- French Hill (1586 feet)
